Modern (and French) 356: PGO Cévennes

In 2005, French firm PGO begins building the Cévennes, a modern interpretation of the Porsche 356. Porsche sues, but PGO wins on appeal.

Named for a mountain range in central France, the Cévennes is powered by the Peugeot 206 GTi's 2-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 137 brake horsepower (@ 6,000 rpm) and 140 foot-pounds of torque (@ 4,100 rpm); mounted amidships, and driving the rear wheels. It's good for a 7-second 0-62 mph time, and a 125 mph top speed.

On the few occasions that the Cévennes has been road tested, it has proven a surprising favorite, with first-rate fit and finish; excellent grip, and a comfortable ride, if woolly steering and a disappointing engine note.
